Chapter 1: Investigating the Past
Vocabulary
| archeologist | an expert who studies the past by examining objects that people left behind. |
| historian | an expert who studies and records the past |
| geographer | an expert who studies and creates maps of earth's natural and human made features |
| artifact | an object made or used by people in the past |
| prehistoric | before written history |
| ritual | elating to ceremonies, such as a religious ceremony. |
Cornell Notes Each period has a spiral notebook I am using as the students learn how to take notes. P4 - yellow, P6 - blue and p7 - red. The black text is what at least two of the three periods concluded. Use the information gathered from periods than your own to enhance your notes. You may see a question or some information not covered or discussed in your period that was thought of in another.

SECOND * Based on your notes to the right, come up with possible test questions. Your question must require that the answer be found in your notes. |
FIRST * Key words - First glance through the section and note the key words that "pop out" at you; write them down. * As you read the material, when those key words or any other important information is noted, jot that information with the word in this section.

| 2-3 Sentence Summary: THIRD * When you get home (but not yet...you're still learning the format..) but after you understand the process, when you get home, you will read your notes, read your questions, and then write a 2-3 sentence summary about what you learned. Use these notes to study for tests. DO NOT TEAR THEM OUT OF YOUR SPIRAL!!! | ||
